• Lost Stories

“We have set up a Lost Stories Academy in Mumbai, India, where we help and teach aspiring music producers music production,” the inspirational duo, Prayag Mehta and Rishab Joshi, tell DJ Mag. The aim of their heartfelt mission is to train and take more producers under their wing and make sure that they are ready to face the kind of challenges that Lost Stories encountered in the early stages of their career. With plans to launch their Academy across India in other cities, this is the kind of forward-thinking talk that gives some insight into why Lost Stories have entered the Top 100 DJs. They kicked off the year by signing an exclusive publishing deal with the Netherlands MusicAllStars and were also invited to join Spinnin’ Records’ songwriting camp. A stockpile of their remixes have surfaced during 2016, including their magic dust sprinkled on Justin Beiber's 'Sorry'. Their debut single release 'India', a collaboration with Jetfire and Carta, has been smashing it on huge festival dancefloors across the world. “We are set to release two new singles which we and a lot of artists have been playing over last few months,” they say. A collab with Crossnaders is on the cards, and a single with India's award-winning singer Kavita Seth is imminent. HELENE STOKES What have been the new frontiers for you this year? “Taking Indian music to the world has always been our goal.” Is electronic music taken seriously enough as an art-form? “Producers/DJs who take it seriously enough as an art-form always tend to rise above mediocrity. The rest of them? Well, you can find them complaining on Twitter.” What’s the best new bit of DJ/production technology, and why? “We have our eyes on the CDJ 2000 NXS2 lately! We’ve played a bunch of shows on them and the amount of possibilities one can think of is limitless. As far as production is concerned, we’ve been checking Keyscape by Spectrasonics out.” If you had to switch your style to another genre, what would it be? “We keep switching genres from track to track. The only common thing that gives our tracks the signature Lost Stories sound is the Indian/ethnic elements.” As a fan, what is the top price you would pay to see yourself DJ? “Wow. Let’s say we’re our biggest critics and biggest fans, so we’d pay any amount to watch ourselves perform.” What can be done to prevent drug-related deaths at dance music events? “Throughout the course of rave history, people have been trying to enhance their music experience by taking controlled substances. The small increase in drug-related deaths at music festivals usually end up being people who were unaware about the ill-effects of the particular substance they were taking. Proper education and awareness on all forms of controlled substance is needed.” How can we increase diversity in dance music? “Cross-genre collaborations in turn heightening exposure of various genres to a wider audience, music festivals laying emphasis on the cultural aspects of the host country.”
